A beautiful port of call and a charming place to pause for the restaurants, bistros and markets. The port of Trèbes has the appearance of a sleepy fishing port, with anchored boats and little shops, yet is characterised by its many conveniences.
With easy parking alongside the canal, under the shade of the wonderful plane trees, a walk from the port downwards to the double-loch allows a view of the distinctive landscape of the Canal du Midi.
Be aware that before reaching the loch, one may be seduced by the wonderful local products of Domaine de l'Ecluse cooked by a welcoming grandmother!
A little further, on the opposite bank, an old waterway stop constructed in the 1600s has been transformed into an inn with a very pleasant garden restaurant that overlooks the double loch.
Visit the fortified Mediterranean gothic style church. It has a square spire and surrounded by painted corbels from the XIV century Corbels are stones, pieces of wood and or metal that are built into the masonry, forming a ledge to be used as a support.
Nearby you will also find a bridge-aqueduct, which dates back to the XIX architect, Mr Vauban, the roman bridge of the Rode.
